SEASON 2023 Rules
All birds will be flown to one loft from I-95 North
There will be four-race series, 137 Mile, 183 Mile 254 Mile, and 350 Mile.
Accepting birds from March 1st to June 30th. Any birds injured or lost may be replaced by July 31st.
The perch fee is $150 per bird, $125 for more than 10 birds. NON-REFUNDABLE
The perch fee must accompany birds at shipping, NO EXCEPTION
The perch and activation payments will only be accepted in a sealed envelope with the information of the loft and the name that represents the team - we do not accept electronic payments or credit cards.
The 350 Mile Race will be paid on the first drop and then clocking order. The first drop is considered the first pigeons arriving in one group - if five birds arrived together, the first five prizes will be added and divided by 5 equal amounts.
All entered birds must compete in the entire race series unless the bird is physically incapacitated.
The entry fee is $400 per bird due after the 100 Mile Activation Race, every breeder is responsible to activate ALL BIRDS. All birds on the team must be activated. It’s an “All or Nothing” activation.
Birds not activated by the time of the first race, may be activated by another breeder. All non-activated birds, will be become property of Florida Pigeon Derby.
Birds that entry fees were paid and does not make it to the first race (137 miles) this money will be held as a credit for any optional races or next year’s perch/entry fees. Every breeder needs to report if they are missing any bird(s) for Race 1, you have until Race 2 to report this.
Participants must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older to enter.
Visitors are always welcome by appointment only.
Birds will not be handled by the breeder or any other person other than the loft manager until the final race shipping day.
A tax identification number recognized by the IRS (W-9 form) will be required prior to awarding of any prizes valued at $600 or more, and such awards will be reported as required by IRS regulations.
Florida Pigeon Derby will hold ABSOLUTELY NO POOLING OR GAMBLING OF ANY TYPE before or during the races, all flyers are flying for the capital prize only.
The final race will remain open for 2 days if no bird is home by the end of the 1st day. If no bird is home by the end of the 2nd day, all prize monies will be refunded minus 15% for race day expenses. There is no dead time; the clock will be running until the race is finished.
The loft manager reserves the right to refuse entry to any breeder or attendee at his discretion.
Florida Pigeon Derby will not make changes to loft names after June 30th. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Birds will be vaccinated for Paratyphoid, PMV, and POX. All birds will have the 9th and 10th flight pulled and grown in prior to training. Birds with POX will not be accepted.
Not responsible for any birds lost in training or race time, all birds will be equally managed.
Race dates are subject to change due to weather conditions - rain and/or winds of 15 mph or more.

On the day of the 350 Mile Final Race, if there is a tailwind along the course, the loft manager will have the option to increase the distance with the intention to have fewer birds on the first drop.
All Birds Returning Home Must Be Claimed within 15 DAYS of the final race. After 15 days, birds will become property of Florida Pigeon Derby
Return shipping fees must be paid within 15 days of the Final Race, get in contact with the Loft Manager as soon as possible.
Shipping Fees: $65 per bird, $10 per additional bird.
Florida Pigeon Derby will start shipping the birds back once ALL the RACES are over. All birds will be shipped to the registered name on Wincompanion.
The loft manager reserves the right to make all final decisions.
Florida Pigeon Derby reserves the right to deny entry to any breeder not following the rules.
Florida Pigeon Derby will not be held responsible for lost birds under any circumstance, including but not limited to shipping issues, government interference, illness, natural disaster, or theft.
By sending birds to Florida Pigeon Derby, you agree to abide by all rules.
FOR SALE BIRDS
“Birds Listed “FOR SALE”
Any person that decides to purchase a “For Sale” bird will be required to split 50/50 with the breeder any prize money won by the bird(s) in any of the main 4 Races and including the Activation Race.
Optional Races ARE NOT INCLUDED.
The bird(s) belongs to the buyer after the Final Race.
