The "Kaasboer" made Gaston Van De Wouwer world-famous. Pigeon fanciers from around the world are interested in descendants of this golden breeding cock. Even today, after he sold many of his pigeons in 2014, the Van De Wouwer variety is very popular and this is thanks to the "Kaasboer".
Never in his life Gaston Van De Wouwer bought a pigeon. Most of his pigeons, mostly summer youngsters, are exchanged with fanciers who are also friends of him. One day Gaston went to Francois Govaerts in Beerzel to exchange a pigeon. The brother of Francois was on the market with butter and cheese and they called him De Kaasboer. Gaston coupled a pigeon from Bart Hendrickx to that of De Kaasboer. The young descendants turned out to be great prize winners. After that the 690 got another hen and again the youngsters were top pigeons with fantastic results. It did not matter which hen he got, toppers always came out. A 'dominant breeder', a pure chunk of muscles ... a stock pigeon from the thousand ... in short, a pigeon as one finds very rarely! It was therefore clear that Gaston would call the blue 690 to Jozef Govaerts "Kaasboer".
Gaston and the brothers then investigated who were the parents of the 690, but the brothers Govaerts were nog in agreement, one said from that pigeon and the other pointed to another pigeon. As a result, no inbreeding was done.
