Donald Trump’s allies have accused President Biden of escalating the war in Ukraine by authorising the first use of American-supplied long-range missiles by Kyiv’s forces for strikes deep inside Russia.

The weapons, with a range of nearly 200 miles, are initially likely to be employed against Russian and North Korean troops who are fighting Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of western Russia, US media reported.
Officials said the authorisation to use US-made ATACMS missiles, long-discussed in Washington and pleaded-for in Kyiv, was a response to at least 10,000 North Korean troops being moved to support Russian forces on the border with Ukraine.
The move demonstrates Biden’s continued ability to influence the course of the war two months before Donald Trump takes up office, and will anger the Kremlin, which has promised in the past to retaliate if such an authorisation was given.
Trump, the president-elect, has said he intends to swiftly end the war between Russia and Ukraine, without laying out how he would achieve that aim. Trump did not immediately respond to the reports of Biden’s move.
