In India’s eastern Odisha state, more than 100 Belgian homing pigeons are being raised and trained to carry messages as a backup form of communication if more modern methods fail. Police in Cuttack are keeping this nearly century-old messaging relic alive, despite the fact that the birds currently make few appearances other than at events such as India's Independence Day and Republic Day.
